Grief over a pet is a quiet, deep kind of pain. You miss not just their presence, but the comfort they brought and the way they made the world feel a little softer. Memories surface unexpectedly, a favorite toy in the corner, a spot they liked to nap in, and each one is a reminder of the love you shared. It’s a loss that lingers, but with time, the sorrow blends with gratitude, and you learn to carry their memory as a tender part of your heart.
BTS members have at one point or another lost their beloved pets. They have always shared moments with their pets making them to be loved worldwide.
Yeontan (Tannie) — V (Kim Taehyung)
One of the most well-known pets in the BTS fandom, Yeontan was V’s adorable Pomeranian companion. “Tannie” held a special place not just in V’s heart, but in ARMY’s as well, frequently appearing in BTS content, music visuals, and behind-the-scenes moments. Tragically, Yeontan passed away in late 2024 due to longstanding heart health struggles, he had undergone two heart surgeries, both unsuccessful, yet showed remarkable resilience and spirit.
V publicly shared the news, touching many hearts. In a heartfelt message to fans, he said Yeontan had “embarked on a long journey to the dog stars,” and encouraged ARMY to remember him fondly so he could be happy even from afar. The outpouring of love was profound, with #RIPYeontan trending as fans around the world mourned the loss of the furry friend they all cherished.
Gureum — Jungkook’s Family Dog
Gureum, meaning “cloud” in Korean, was Jungkook’s family dog who passed away at the end of 2021.
The late pup lived a long and happy life, and his passing was announced with deep love and gratitude, highlighting the joy he brought to Jungkook’s family over two decades.
Jjanggu — Jin
Earlier, in 2017, Jin experienced the loss of his beloved Maltese, Jjanggu. The grief was raw and visible, J-Hope revealed on the show In The Soop 2 that Jin was overcome with emotion and even “bawled uncontrollably” upon hearing the news.
Despite the professional demands and emotional pain, he continued with the performance as promised, a testament to the strength and caring bonds within the group.
Eomuk — Jin
Another adored sugar glider who shared Jin’s home and heart. Eomuk passed away in 2018, before Odeng.

Odeng — Jin
Odeng was one of Jin’s beloved sugar gliders, a small and affectionate pet often mentioned alongside Jjanggu and Eomuk.
In 2019, Odeng tragically passed away after falling from his cage. Jin became emotional when sharing the news during a V Live broadcast, emphasizing how painful the accident was to witness.
Jin’s journey of love and loss with his pets offers powerful insight into the bond between humans and their animal companions. He honored each pet’s memory through music and publicly acknowledged his grief, demonstrating emotional honesty that resonates deeply with ARMY and reminds us that pain is a universal language.
His compassion extends beyond mourning, Jin has also contributed generously to animal welfare causes, such as donating food, supplies, and prize money to organizations like the Beagle Rescue Network and the Korean Animal Welfare Association
Jin’s late pets, Jjangu, Eomuk, and Odeng, were more than companions; they were cherished family members whose passing significantly affected him. Through his vulnerable expressions of grief, and subsequent acts of empathy, Jin helps normalize mourning and celebrates the love that reality can so painfully leave behind.
RapMon (Monie) – RM
Namjoon (RM) had a pet dog named Rapmon (also called Monie), a white American Eskimo dog. Sadly, Rapmon passed away in 2023.
Rapmon was often mentioned by RM in interviews and seen in a few photos shared with fans over the years. After his passing, RM quietly acknowledged it on Weverse by responding to a fan who mentioned missing Rapmon, showing that he still remembered and cherished his pet.
The loss of a pet is deeply personal and often lifelong. For BTS members, whose lives are in the spotlight, the emotional impact is shared with millions of ARMYs, turning these moments of grief into a testament of empathy and support.
